James Harris Khan is an amateur boxer who started boxing at the age of 10, James was a young lad full of energy, in school he would often get his brothers and mother called in due to his hyperactive behaviour. It was then his brother Ricky decided that he needed to challenge that energy elsewhere but in a positive way.
Ricky used to box as a hobby and decided to take his younger brother to his local gym at the time which was E4 Boxing gym in Chingford. James settled in fast and it soon became apparent that this was his career choice. He adapted easily and became so in love with the sport. He studied meal preps and watched countless videos of his favourite boxers. James was very competitive and wanted to be in the ring sparring all the time, Ken who was a trainer at E4 took him under his wing and developed him as he saw a special talent. James was learning everyday eager to showcase his skills, in 2018 James was matched with a young lad from Gator Gym at 54kg. His very first amateur fight and he was ready, James went three 2 min rounds and won on points. He felt very good and comfortable at that weight so decided to stay that way into his next fight in 2020. James was becoming frustrated at the fact that he was not getting enough fights and the gaps between them were too far apart.
As a family we all sat and discussed the options of him training at another gym, it was at this time Covid hit and things got made difficult. Fortunately James was even more determined to use this time to train harder, his brothers purchased a boxing bag and went to the park with him for pad works when people were allowed out. James saw that East London Boxing Academy (ELBA) were taking on new recruits and he wanted to try out there. 10 spaces were available and James made it into the squad. He brought what he knew and added more by Coach Ali who saw a talented kid, and decided that James had catching up due to covid and his previous gym not getting him enough practice.
By late 2021 James fought for (ELBA) in Norlington school East London for the first time at 56kg beating his opponent unanimously.
In October that same year he won London Championships as a junior via TKO at 60kg. One week later he would compete in the national semi finals, unfortunately James would see his first defeat as a amateur where he lost on a 3-2 split decision.
With 3 fights already with ELBA James was developing rapidly, studied body mechanics and food intake, how to cut weight and watch his opponents. James had his 4th fight approaching in 2022. Held at Grove Road Leyton James bounced back and won by TKO at 60kg....
In 2023 James was pushed up to 3 rounds at 3 minute at a dinner show held by ELBA he fought a boxer from West Ham Gym who was a weight class above him and won Unanimously.
